An explanation of the effect of meteorological conditions on the path of the sonic boom is presented. Areas covered by sonic booms resulting from aircraft flying at various Mach numbers and dive angles are shown, taking standard atmospheric gradients into account. Calculations are given for the effect of the jet stream as well as ordinary winds on the sonic boom. (Author)
