The proposed project would involve a plan for railroad track removal and relocation in and adjacent to Greenwood. Two major traffic thoroughfares in the Greenwood central business district are concerned. The plan would be accomplished by a scheme of combining rail traffic onto existing railroads and relocation of necessary trackage into more suitable areas. The project would foster growth of the central business district as well as orderly planning of thoroughfares to accommodate growing traffic volumes. Some of the abandoned railway right of way could be used for thoroughfares that would aid the flow of vehicular traffic. Safety would be improved since thirty-five grade crossings and two pedestrian crossings would be eliminated. Unavoidable adverse environmental effects would be few. The construction process would probably result in some inconvenience to rail and highway traffic as well as adjacent property owners, but this effect is anticipated to be minimal.
