The development, modernization, and integration of electro-optical sensors into U.S. Army aviation weapon systems necessitate a conclusive strategy for evaluating system level performance. While most sensors are tested in a laboratory environment, consideration must be given to the possible degradation in performance after installation on an aircraft. The following test procedures, data reduction and performance analysis will be applicable to MRTD testing of electro-optical sensors installed on an aircraft inside or outside of a laboratory environment. These procedures are needed to support current and future customers. RTC maintains equipment to perform numerous electro-optical sensor tests. The Athermal Collimator Test Set (ACTS) provides traditional static target projection to assist the test engineer in characterizing electro-optical sensors.
