The capability of Space Station Freedom to accommodate attached payloads is outlined. There is accommodation for attached payloads on the truss structure, Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) and the Columbus Attached Laboratory (CAL). All routine in orbit operations such as installation and desinstallation of attached payloads or their platforms will be carried out by robotic methods. The following are discussed: orbit and viewing constraints; contamination; lead times for payloads; European access to the truss sites and JEM-EF (Exposure Facility); and support for attached payload users in Europe.
