The design philosophy of the wide bodied Trent aircraft is discussed and principal design features are described. The Trent is a derivative of the RB211 family. The consistent design approach through three generations is outlined. The unique wide-chord fan blade manufacturing sequence, involving superplastic forming and diffusion bonding, is described. A computer model of the engine structure of the Trent 800, and performance retention features, are shown. Structural analysis and design, including finite element analysis, is described.
