In Task I assistance was provided in evolving the vehicle test shell designs and in assembling test shell number DV4-7 using more typical automotive assembly and welding practices. The objective of Task II was to take the basic concept and structural design and develop it to be producible at the volume of 300,000 units per year with particular emphasis on the sheet metal body-in-white and foam filling of that body. This design is compared with cost and weight data for the 1975 Pinto car. Facilities and tooling requirements are analyzed relative to those required for the 1975 Pinto. A study of the foaming requirements for the vehicle is made with recommended production facilities. A final vehicle weight and cost relative to the 1975 Pinto are presented.
