From the description of the wind shear effects on the energy state of the aircraft, measures are derived in order to define a controller that improves flight safety. In comparison to a conventional flight control system, this approach presents advantages for reducing windshear effects. The actual windshear problem stems from neither the controlled flight nor the limited aircraft performance, but rather from manual flight. The pilot is unable to perform with conventional instrumentation the necessary measures, such as setting the thrust at the right time and level. Indicating the energy and power loss via signals sent into modified instruments leads to an improvement in flight performance during windshear. It is therefore shown that through suitable instrumentation modifications the effects of wind shear can be reduced.
