A rather comprehensive study has been completed on the improving of the skid resistance of PCC pavements by serration. The type of grooving pattern used influences the reaction of people driving motorcycles or light cars over longitudinal (parallel to the centerline) serrations. It appears that the nature of the existing concrete surface, and the type of serration pattern influence the degree of improvement in friction values. A marked reduction in wet weather accidents has occurred in critical curve areas that have been serrated. (Author)
