The purpose of the Symposium was to assess the technology status in the field of hypersonics after a comparative lull in the past decade. The limitations of test facilities for experimental studies at high Mach numbers were clearly evident. New developments in computational fluid dynamics provide possibilities that did not exist in the past. The reviewer stressed the areas that need special emphasis in the future.
