Results of a direct observation study of seat belt use in Michigan conducted in November 1987 were compared with results of nine previous surveys. In the current survey, 17,580 occupants in 12,210 cars and light trucks were observed between October 26 and November 15, 1987. The main finding was that use of seat belts changed little between July 1987 and November 1987.
