Ten physiological records were obtained from each of siz pilots performing simulated flight problems in a C-97 aircraft simulator. The pilots were given therapeutic doses of either a tranquilizer (meprobamate) or an antihistamine (chlorpheniramine) during three of the simulated flights, the others being training or control flights. Records were made of electrocardiogram, heartrate, respiratory rate, galvanic skin response, electroencephalogram (parietal-occipital), electroencephalogram (frontal-central) and lateral eye movements (electro-oculogram). None of the variability of the above parameters, with the exception of the electroencephalograms (to be separately published), was ascribable to drug treatment. The techniques developed during this study are suitable for physiological recording from subjects in the work situation. (Author)
