The study was designed to understand the mechanism of injury to the human facial skeleton and the head-neck complex secondary to motor vehicle collisions. In particular, studies were developed to advance criteria for the design of safety steering wheels to mitigate facial trauma. Furthermore, research was conducted to replicate motor vehicle related neck injuries and gather biodynamic data that can be used to develop mathematical models, anthropomorphic test devices with improved biofidelity, and assist in developing safer automobile interior components.
