The program sought to provide adequate data on which to base a judgment of the probability of success in producing a satisfactory glass fiber reinforced plastic pressureless tire by the filament winding method. The tire sought represents an entirely new and unique concept in automotive tires, and would be impossible to deflate. A process was developed to produce a preliminary model of a 7.00 x 16 tire. Several tire configurations were wound and tested statically, and dynamically on an indoor wheel. The feasibility of a glass fiber reinforced plastic pressureless tire was demonstrated. (Author)
