The selection of a propulsion system involves systems and program considerations beyond the performance and weight analysis of power plants as such. There are excellent surveys of propulsion systems and this paper emphasizes the more general systems features. The selection of upper stage propulsion systems for space vehicles is considered with special emphasis on over-all systems considerations, including but not limited to performance. (Author)
