Interstate Route 88, the Susquehanna Expressway, is a four-lane divided highway with complete access control that is currently being planned for the Route 7 corridor between Binghamton and the Capital District (Albany-Schenectady-Troy). The most improtant unavoidable adverse environmental effects are displacement of approximately twenty-five to thirty families and five businesses, and to noise and visual intrusion on an additional thirty to sixty homes. In addition, land may be required from a wildlife preserve. Location alternates are described which were developed to meet the transportation and regional development objectives of the project: to improve medium-and long-distance travel in the corridor, to complete a connection in the Interstate Highway System, and to promote economic growth and development in the region.
