The report is one of several documents being generated as part of the traffic signal hardware demonstration project sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The project's purpose is to determine how much fuel can be saved by upgrading the State's traffic signal hardware. Contained within the report are a set of criteria that help identify the types of equipment best suited to a given network setting. The criteria have been prepared by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in conjunction with its subcontractor, JHK and Associates, the State Department of Transportation, the State Energy Office and traffic engineers across the State and throughout the United States.
