Integrated Communications, Navigation, and Identification (ICNI) implies two objectives: (a) implementation of a worldwide available command/control system, and (b) equipment and signal integration. Satellite systems can provide navigation capability, and communications capability. Tactical satellite communications experiments have demonstrated feasibility; however, ICNI requirements dictate a wideband, high power, and large, expensive satellite. This satellite is developable during the latter 1970s. The navigation capability requires development and demonstration in the near future. (Author)
