The purpose of the demonstration project was to study the attitudes of patrons toward certain unique experimental bus lines, operated within the urban area, and to develop a basis for predicting probable results of similar lines by relating certain observed land use, social and economic characteristics of the areas served to such experimental bus lines. An additional study purpose was to demonstrate a more complete integration of transit services and to reveal how the experimental lines either complimented or detracted from the overall network of transit lines. The study did not explore the impact of changes in transit technology or the feasibility of such forms of transit as rail mass transit. Significant changes in transit technology could drastically alter the entire transit system. Past experience does show that rail transit, at its present level is most feasible for communities of larger size and higher densities than Nashville.
