Criteria are presented herein for the design of a smoke-abated, aircraft crash and rescue, fire training facility. A newly-developed water spray system provides for the abatement of smoke generated in the hot-fire trainer during the fire training exercise. Contaminated waste water is collected in tankage for appropriate disposal. The design includes a fuel system with nozzle outlets for delivering gasoline or JP-4 to the hot-fire trainer. The use of less volatile fuels will not provide for adequate fuel smoke abatement during the ignition phase. Supplementary mock up training aids, required for a complete training facility, are not provided in this document. This information will be available in separate documents. (Author)
