As a result of the hardening of the operational bases, a shockmounting system was designed to isolate the launcher and the missile from any earth tremors that might be encountered in an 'E' series horizontal missile complex. The launcher is supported at the pivot points by two pivot shockmount assemblies and at the launcher arms by two sway shockmount assemblies. The launcher sway shockmount assembly was tested to evaluate the structural and functional adequacy of the design. It was however, since trouble has already been encountered with the shockmounts at some of the operational bases, it was necessary to modify the specimen and do some additional testing. This report gives results of the testing of the 27-49560-1 Launcher Sway Shockmount Assembly when subjected to normal pre-loads and loads that might be encountered at an operational installation.
