Unfavorable wind conditions and high temperature are recorded in fatal accident reports significantly less often. Seven types of pilot involvement are listed in fatal accident reports significantly more often than other types of pilot involvement. They are: (1) Attempted operation beyond experience/ability level; (2) became lost/disoriented; (3) continued VFR flight into adverse weather conditions; (4) failed to obtain/maintain flying speed; (5) inadequate preflight preparation and/or planning; (6) exercised poor judgment; (7) spatial disorientation.
