This submission updated Volume I, incorporating corrections and improvements as necessary. The series of volumes documents the operations concepts for operational Air Traffic Control (ATC) positions in the Advanced Automation System (AAS). AAS operational positions involve interaction with advanced radar and flight data displays, as well as other automated ATC functions, through a sector suite workstation or position console. Volume I of the series includes material common to all positions. Operations in todays facilities (pre-AAS Centers, Towers, and Terminals, the automated capabilities planned for AAS, and the methodology used to analyze the operations concept for a particular ATC position) are described in Volume I. Volume I includes definitions of air traffic events, baseline operational scenarios, glossaries of task and element action verbs, glossary of ATC terms, and list of acronyms used in the documents. Additional data volumes in this series include operations concept data pertinent to particular ATC positions and AAS segments. Updates caused by new editions of the AAS System Level Specification and other changes to any of these volumes will be issued as change pages to the original volume.
