An earth sensor utilizing infrared (IR) horizon radiation is one of the fundamental attitude sensors for three-axis attitude stabilized spacecraft. The attitude measurement accuracy of this type of sensor greatly depends on the variation of the IR radiation magnitude and characteristics, which are determined by upper atmosphere meteorological conditions. IR radiation measurement results from a TT-500A sounding rocket firing in August, 1983 are presented.
