New commercial formulations of runway ice control products have recently made their way onto military and commercial aircraft runways. These products have not been tested for compatibility with a number of aircraft materials, many of which are common to both commercial and military aircraft. In addition, there are some materials that are unique to military aircraft; infrared windows for example for which no compatibility testing had been done, To fill this knowledge gap, AFRL/MLSA undertook a study to evaluate the compatibility of these products with aerospace materials. The compatibility testing performed on these products exceeds the AMS/SAE specification requirements. This report documents AFRL/MLSA'S effort to identify possible problems for both commercial and military aircraft with new deicer/anti-icer materials not evident with the previously used ice control materials.
