Using a two-dimensional patched conic technique to calculate interplanetary orbits a study is made of the possibilities for gravity-assisted exploration of the outer planets of the solar system (with the exception of Pluto) in both Jupiter and Saturn swingbys to perturb the spacecraft trajectories is considered. Full mission data is given in tabular and graphical form. It is found that 16 missions are possible in the 1980's and that another three can be launched in November 1979. The preliminary data given is useful in indicating mission trends and opportunities, and an example is given of a four spacecraft program, with a total duration of ten years, which provides for two separate flybys of the four major planets, as well as data on the interplanetary medium out to a distance of at least thirty astronomical units from the sun.
