A digital model of the COS-B spacecraft was developed, with investigation into the basic requirements of a close loop model using the HEOS-A2 power supplies as a basis. The model comprises two segments; the setup segment responsible for setting parameters (orbit, attitude, and thermal control) to their starting values, and the run segment simulating the temporal progress of the satellite. The model is described, and failure cases in the COS-B model are presented. It is concluded that the COS-B model telemetry data is realistically comparable with the COS-B satellite telemetry data; the closed loop form of operation provides a greater degree of simulation realism than the open loop system. The COS-B model could be adapted to simulate other satellites such as Meteosat and GEOS. Some improvements are suggested.
