A Marconi Myriad digital computer has been used to link 80 traffic signals controlling a square mile in the centre of Glasgow in an experiment to measure the benefits of various systems of co-ordinated control. Systems ranging from simple fixed-time progressions to 'minimum delay' computations based on short term traffic predications are to be assessed by measuring average journey times with instrumented cars. The Report describes control schemes now being considered and the equipment being installed; it discusses modifications to local controllers, data transmission systems, the computer and its peripheral equipment.
