The report describes the conceptual studies and design of a diesel-powered C2 cargo ship adapted Container Discharge Facility (CDF) equipped with two large revolving boom cranes. It has as its primary and secondary missions, respectively, the discharge of containers from nonself-sustaining containerships and the discharge of general cargo from general cargo and special purpose ships to lighterage or other modes of air and/or waterborne transport in Logistics-Over-The-Shore (LOTS) type operations. The scope of the report was restricted to the phase of offloading the cargo, primarily containers, from ships offshore onto lighterage including conventional and proposed landing craft, air cushion vehicles, amphibians and helicopters.
