The accelerations which can occur during crashes of rotary- and light fixed-wing aircraft have been shown to be injurious or fatal to human occupants. Under a joint Army and Navy program, ARA, Inc. developed a crash survivable seat using Government Furnished Equipment in the form of an armored bucket, restraint system, and cushions. The seat system was designed to meet as many of the requirements of MIL-S-58095 (AV) within the physical limitations of existing space requirements in present helicopters.
