The Prognoz space stations launched by the Soviet Union during 1972 are discussed. The stations were designed to study solar activity and its influence on the interplanetary medium and on the earth's magnetosphere. The scientific instrumentation aboard the stations is described. Tests for adjusting and calibrating the instruments on the ground and while in flight are explained. (Author)
