This report identifies specific intermodal performance measures developed by 15 State departments of transportation. The performance measures are classified by goals and analyzed by frequency of use. Frequently used goals address accessibility and availability of intermodal facilities; cost and economic efficiency; safe intermodal choices; intermodal connectivity, and time. The report discusses the role of performance measures in the transportation planning process and their relationship to intermodal management systems. The report also summarizes the major research reports related to the topic of performance measures.
