The project proposes acquisition of approximately 150 acres and reimbursement for 82.05 acres of land previously purchased; construction, lighting and marking of a new E/W runway (3900' x 75') with a turn-around and a connecting taxiway (375' x 40'); construction of a 3,330 square yard apron expansion. The most important purpose of the project is the ability of the airport to serve the flying public under adverse wind conditions. An increase in air traffic is anticipated, resulting in an increase in noise and air pollution in the immediate vicinity of the airport. Construction of the E/W runway will cause an increase in noise and air pollution within the E/W runway approach areas. Construction of the new runway will reduce existing farmland and wildlife habitat.
