The performances of 89 resurfaced PCC pavements were analyzed relative to the performance expected from new rigid and flexible pavements. The analysis has led to a resurfacing design procedure based on a modification of the currently used Illinois rigid pavement design procedure. This new procedure allows the designer to evaluate the anticipated future traffic, the existing subgrade support, and the thickness of the existing pavement components to select the required resurfacing thickness. In addition, a maximum realistic design life of 15 years was established from an analysis of the actual service lives of 64 resurfaced pavements. (Author)
