'Carros Publicos' (public cars) are privately-owned, publicly-regulated jitneys which operate over fixed routes to provide intercity and intracity mass transit in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The report examines the publicos system with reference to system description, importance of user-related attributes, relevance to the local economy, levels of satisfaction of drivers and riders, and economic aspects. Economic analysis indicates operation at a near break-even level; organizational assistance and fare adjustments are recommeded.
