The flying qualities of the UH-1N were generally satisfactory within the normal operational flight envelope. There were no unpredictable or dangerous flight characteristics encountered. At the extremes of the flight envelope, that is at heavy gross weights, forward and aft cg locations, and high altitudes, flying qualities were degraded, but acceptable. Cyclic, directional, and collective force-versus-position characteristics were acceptable. Longitudinal speed stability characteristics were satisfactory at forward cg loadings and acceptable at aft cg loadings. The static directional stability characteristics were acceptable. Responses to abrupt step control inputs were satisfactory. Longitudinal dynamic stability characteristics were divergent in climbing flight, but were acceptable, and were satisfactory for all other flight modes tested. Responses to pulse control inputs were generally satisfactory, except for a divergent response to longitudinal pulses in climbing flight, which was readily controlled and acceptable. Sideward and rearward flight characteristics were acceptable throughout most of the flight envelope. (Author)
