The document is a statistical report of USAF aircraft damaged by collisions with birds during 1970. There were 360 such occurrences 22 more than in 1969. One of these collisions was classified as a major accident as compared with two the previous year. In this case, the bird struck the T-38 nose antenna cover which disintegrated and entered both intakes. The FOD to the engines resulted in a power loss and subsequently both engines stalled. Both crew members ejected successfully; however, the IP suffered burn injuries from the rocket seat rocket catapult. Windscreen/canopy strikes continue to be the greatest hazard to aircrews. As in previous years, a substantial number of birds were ingested by engines. (Author)
