This report is an Early Deployment Plan (EDP) which defines Current, Early Action, Short-Term and Long-Term Projects for deploying Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in Salt Lake Valley, Utah over the next 15 years. An Advanced Traffic Management System will be built, including Traffic Control Centers, ramp metering, surveillance equipment, information dissemination devices, and automated toll facilities. ITS transit applications will include signal pre-emption, automatic passenger counting, automated vehicle location and electronic fare payment. Systems for commercial vehicles will include Mobile Port-of-Entry Stations, Automated Enforcement Stations, for Weigh-in-Motion, and Automated Commercial Vehicle Administrative Processes. Other projects outlined in the EDP include Road Weather Information Systems to detect decreased visibility and avalanche conditions. The report serves as a guidance document for initiating and deploying these ITS projects within the region, including the identification of a Regional ITS framework for all agencies in the area.
