The Aggregation of Red Cells (ARC) is a middeck payload that was flown on STS 51-C (STS 15). The experiment is sponsored by the Microgravity Science and Applications Division of this office as a cooperative payload with Australia. The objective of the ARC was to test the capability of the ARC apparatus to study in weightlessness some of the various characteristics of blc6d and their disease dependencies. This was the first of two planned flights of the ARC. It was previously manifested on STS 51-A for a November 1984 flight but was demanifested by the Office of Space Flight (OSF) due to overall Orbiter weight and center of gravity problems. The OSF then approached the Department of Defense (DoD) and they graciously made room for the ARC on STS 51-C. The enclosed Post Launch Mission Operation Report contains the results (preliminary) from the experiment and documents this activity as having successfully met the overall objectives. It is designed to be used with the Prelaunch MOR (Report No. E-420-51-C-12) which provides detailed description of the experiment hardware and mission operations.
