The report presents an analysis of waterborne commerce moving through Texas ports and waterways. The data developed are designed to provide information on the importance of waterborne commerce, especially that moving over the intracoastal and inland waterway system to the economy of Texas. The major receiving area for shipments leaving Texas on the waterway is the area between New Orleans and the mouth of the Ohio River which received 26.0% of the tonnage. The Ohio, Cumberland, and Tennessee River systems terminated almost 25% of the tonnage shipped from Texas. Destinations on the Illinois River and Great Lakes accounted for 18.4% of the total shipped from the state. (Modified author abstract)
