The Tactile Statistical Awareness System (TSAS) is designed to provide hover feedback via the sense of touch, permitting helicopter pilots to maintain aircraft control within degraded visual environment (DVE). In Part 1 of our effort (reported in Law and Rupert, 2014), several improvements were made to the TSAS. In Part 2 of the effort (discussed in the present repot), the improved TSAS was evaluated during simulated flight testing. The test evaluated the ability of the TSAS to improve a pilot’s hover stability as a simulated DVE or brownout condition. The TSAS was integrated into a UH-60 simulator successfully and a trend towards smaller mean hover deviation was observed among 10 pilots while TSAS was in use. Further testing is recommended.
