The results of studies dedicated to the applicability of modern control techniques to future spacecraft AOC/GNC (Attitude and Orbit Control/Guidance, Navigation and Control) systems are presented. A (nonexhaustive) review of current and future space missions which are likely to claim for the utilization of modern control theory is performed. A set of modern control techniques among the most promising ones is presented. The applicability of these methods to space control systems is discussed. Two typical applications selected for practical evaluation of modern control techniques and comparison with classical ones are described.
