The Transmediterranean Balloon Flight Organization ODISSEA is described. It is a joint venture between France, Italy, and Spain, and gives an opportunity to perform long duration (greater than 27 hr) flights at a high level of performance. Nearly 40 flights were completed, and outstanding results were obtained thanks to the appearance of a polyethylene successfully used to build very large balloons (up to 1 million cu m) carrying very heavy payloads (2200 kg). The ODISSEA facilities, and the services offered to the scientific community are outlined.
