The Illinois State Police conducted a Concentrated Traffic Enforcement Program beginning September 1, 1977. Efforts were directed at reducing vehicular accidents and their resultant injuries and deaths through increased police enforcement of all traffic laws at 45 Statewide high-accident locations. The six-month program (September-December 1977; May-June 1978) utilized 49,280 man-hours, devoted to partol during critical days of the week and times of the day as suggested by patterns of accidents. Additionally, public information campaigns were conducted and judicial contacts made and maintained. This report details the goals, objectives, and methodology that has been developed to guide the conduct and assessment of the program.
