The paper discusses the use of helicopters to accomplish topographic-geodetic work in a sandy, nearly impenetrable region. The work was accomplished by one crew of 17 men and a rented helicopter. By calculation, the reconnaissance and erection of one point with the aid of a helicopter used approximately 280% less time than the same project using automobiles, and the budget economized by 200%. The use of a helicopter increases quality, secures the absence of blind spots and insures the prompt registering of data. One may conclude that the use of helicopters in the reconnaissance and erection of geodesic signals in remote regions is advisable, in spite of some rise in the cost of work as a result of the high cost of renting a helicopter.
