In the performance of the environmental qualification program performed in the laboratory during October, 1957, a vibration test was conducted on an entire XQ-5 drone missile. Data was obtained for determining functions governing the mechanical transmission of vibratory energy from the engine input to locations throughout the vehicle. As analysis of the data will require approximately three months, a preliminary report describing the objectives and conduct of the test is submitted. The attainment of these objectives has an immediate and vital effect on the development of the Q-5 drone. Exact and confident definition of the vibratory environment will result in design and testing to the most realistic criteria, with the certainty that reliability will be improved and production costs reduced. An ensuing report will present the results of the analysis of the data.
