A group of data bases for deep-space artificial satellites has been analyzed for orbital element sets exhibiting mean motions within 1.5 rev/day of 2.2 rev/day, eccentricity within 0.3 of 0.73, and inclination within 3 deg of 6.2 deg, as would be expected of Ariane upper stage explosion debris. The rapid growth of objects in these Ariane-type orbits is consistent with the two recorded explosions of Ariane launch vehicle upper stage elements. About 250 objects are currently being tracked.
