This briefing provides an overview recent NASA activities in the development of deployable space structures technology. NASA?s interest in innovative technologies that support human and robotic exploration are discussed followed by an emphasis on expandable structures technology. Recent work in inflatable habitats and large deployable solar arrays to support solar electric propulsion are discussed. Joint efforts by NASA and DLR in the application of additive manufacturing to augment the damage tolerance of thin film space systems such as solar sails are also described. Through this briefing and future interchanges we wish to maintain a dialogue with our international colleagues to advance expandable structures technology.
