Throttle Position Sensing had traditionally been using a passive potentiometric sensor. The sensor senses the position of the throttle valve so that air-fuel mixture information can be obtained by the engine controller. Hence, the linearity, reliability and accuracy of this sensor are very important parameters so as to achieve successful and efficient engine combustion.Recently with the availability of active Hall sensors, another alternative solution is available. This solution is contact less, compact, does not generated from sliding contacts and immune to dust and dirt. This paper describes an over view of the concept and provides some design considerations to improve accuracy and linearity of the sensor output.
