The United States Post Office Department shares a similar objective with the air transportation industry in overcoming the problems resulting from both the growth of air transportation and increasing congestion on the ground. The Department is approaching the problem on several fronts. Initially, it has undertaken the modernization and expansion of most of its airport mail facilities to meet the needs of the airlift program. For the longer run, it must look to closer proximity to air terminals for major facilities and to the systematic consideration of alternate means of transportation to and from air terminals.
