The Man-Systems Division of Johnson Space Center is responsible for establishing requirements for NASA spacecraft to assure the environment in which an astronaut lives and works is both safe and conducive to productivity. Requirements are delineated in NASA Standard 3000, Volumes I through IV. Volume IV identifies interior environment requirements for Space Station Freedom. The requirements provide for a means to measure and verify vibroacoustic levels are within specification and do not exceed crewmember exposure limits. The Man-Systems Division has initiated development of the VibroAcoustic Monitoring System (VAMS), a Crew Health Care System (CHeCS) subsystem, to serve this purpose. This paper describes the evolution of internal environment vibroacoustic requirements for Space Station Freedom. VAMS performance and operational requirements and the current concept design architecture are also discussed.
